How to trigger consumers and prosumer to rethink their relationship with energy?

In 2020, I led a team as their captain in the Odyssey Momentum hackathon, where we aimed to explore innovative methods of engaging consumers and prosumers to optimize their relationship with energy. The challenge centered on enhancing the interaction of prosumers, individuals who generate their own electricity through sources like solar panels, with their local communities. Our goal was to discover a game-changing solution that would enhance the interaction within local energy communities, leading to a more efficient utilization of locally generated electricity.
Ahead of the hackathon, our team brainstormed strategies to increase engagement among various community groups, including small businesses and sports clubs. We encountered challenges in the Energy Singularity Challenge, particularly in motivating people to participate in energy communities due to the inherently low interest in energy as a product. Ultimately, we devised a concept for a marketplace where prosumers could share or exchange energy for items they are passionate about.
Throughout the hackathon, we consulted experts in incentive models and gamification to enhance our app design. By incorporating their insights, we achieved a balance between financial incentives and emotional motivations for users.
We recognize the importance of addressing both user interaction and community dynamics for further testing. While social dynamics are crucial for community growth, technical execution must align with current energy trading regulations.
Our team firmly believes in the potential of enabling individuals to directly exchange energy for goods they love, hence the name 'Streaming Potential'.
At the conclusion of the hackathon, our project 'Streaming Potential' and rvolt were awarded joint first place, with Decergy receiving second place. The jury considered not only the creativity of the ideas but also the teams' potential to develop the proposed applications.
